ahhh yes, fall at the park and ride!

ahh yes, fall has arrived to the states of beautiful foliage. it's chilly at night and has reached 75 but 2 weeks ago! perfection in a season for sure.

not working with Alberto Sanchez again.

so i had the fresh air fund benefit fashion show last night. call time was 4pm at 504 W. 41 St NYC, but we only left rockland county at 4 and didn't get there until 5pm - which wasn't even the problem.

once there, we were not well received and there wasn't really anyone in charge, it seemed. there were 4 of us, torana, caroline, isaiah and i, and the make up artists said they would only do the make up for torana and i, which made caroline mad because she wasn't even going to come into the city in the first place. ok, so make up done we were supposed to start walking at 9pm, but of course the ever unorganized designer was about 2 hours late, and when he DID show up, he seemed too stressed to even put on a show. at one point he even canceled it. 15 minutes later he runs in telling everyone to get into a line so that he could give us our dresses that he didn't even fit us for. by that time most of us were just frustrated and wanted to get everything done and over with and go home. by 9:30 the producer of the show was starting to get mad because he wanted the show to start before the whole audience left the establishment - which didn't happen. by 10:20 the producer said it was now or never, and as the first girl went, Sanchez came running down the narrow hallway, elbowing me in the process, yelling: "THAT FUCKING BITCH! WHAT THE FUCK IS SHE DOING?!" and some girls tried to explain that we HAD to walk or go home but he didn't care and kept on pushing and shoving us all over the place and trying to tell us what out 2nd and 3rd outfits were. mind you, the yelling didn't stop until he had to go out for the finale.

urg. i think he was a bit drunk most of the time. so, an hour later, after much drama of making me wear a swimsuit that was about 2 sizes too small, we all got out of the backstage area as fast as possible. there wasn't much else to do. outside people congratulated us, telling us we did a great job, oblivious of what happened backstage, and telling us they wanted to help with our books and what not. diva davanna was in our show too, you know, the little 9 yr old supermodel? well, apparently her mom said that this was the worst show she ever saw and was appalled at how Sanchez was treating us. oh and the only thing we got to drink in the back was vodka and alize - no wonder Sanchez was drunk! goodness. oh and the drama doesn't stop there. not only did he treat us like shit, but even when he was done, Sanchez was arguing with the bartender, breaking bottles in the process. security stepped in and when they told him to leave, he blamed the whole ordeal on the bartender. THE NERVE!!

so, all-in-all, the good thing was that the make up looked amazing, and i got some photographers who wanted to work with me - yay!

much love,
caroline

MIKA = amazingness

so i went to see MIKA in concert last night - and when i say that this man knows how to put on a show, its an understatement. i mean he rocked it from start to finish, but let me start with gary go - the guys that opened the show.

when we first entered the theater, i wasn't sure what to expect since it was more of a musical type of establishment that's now being used as a church half the time? not sure what the deal is on that, but that's not the point. so at 8 pm, this guy and his keyboard and friend con guitar open the show for MIKA. i wasn't sure at first who it was until he said his/the band was gary go. my sister remembered who he was before i did and reminded me that we had downloaded his song 'wonderful' sometime in june this year because it was on the swiss top charts and we liked it. i have to say, these boys have got some talent too. i was only able to find one other song from them to download - 'open arms' - which is awesome too, but i wish i could find more ... hmm ... can anyone help?

and then... MIKA. oh man. i mean, i know europeans are awesome at what they do always, but he is absolutely amazing where show performance goes. he knows exactly how to pump up a crowd and keep them wanting more until he walks off the stage after his encore. i mean, amazing. i give him ***** (5stars). no joke.

again, MIKA is amazing. and if you don't know who he is, i suggest you do some research. he amazed me last night, and i'm sure he'll amaze many more in the future - hopefully you'll be among the lucky to get to see him in concert.

for now,
much love

ooooh how time flies!

i know .. it's been almost a month since my last post.
i've been very busy with unignorable things such as school and work. at work, i'm FINALLY back to bartending on saturday nights (which definitely interferes with my social life, but i'm going to have to deal with that for the time being).

first, i was introduced to the world of farmville on facebook. its really stupid, but strangely addicting - even though i really did my best to resist it. but hey, i can play a little farmville and some zynga poker here and there can't i? its entertaining and time consuming. something that is perfect for these rainy days that are coming up.

chris and i were going to go to fright fest at great adventure this weekend, but it looks like THATS going to be rained out too. bummer. i've never been. i would've been fun since this is the last saturday that im not working at night. :/ oh well .. we'll just have to think of something else to do then.

MIKA IS IN TOWN!! vanessa, her friend maria, a family friend birte and i are going to go see MIKA tomorrow night in NYC. i cannot wait! i've been a MIKA fan for longer than most people even know he's existed for - now i sound like a crazed fan, and thats not good.. but really, i'm excited. its going to be so much fun!

what else - well fall is definitely finally here, and today i even saw a glimpse of winter when it started snowing right before i left to head into the city. but before we get to winder, its time for apple picking, hay rides and beautifully colored trees along the long and winding roads in upstate new york. fall is my second favorite season of the year. i could live with spring, summer and fall all the time - winder is less necessary for me.. but thats just me. ask my sister, vanessa, and she would tell you she would be ok with winter most of the year (she's a ski racer - oh them racers!!).

school
is long and, for the most part, seems unnecessary since i feel like i've been relearning everything since day one. i don't need to learn things about the restaurant industry - i've been working in it for three years already and learned about it freshman year of high school!! cool thing about my location though? the gossip girl trailers were right outside our school on wednesday - i guess they were filming near by? yay! gg can be fun - when the mood strikes and i want to relive what everyone else lived through high school. i was less the drama queen and more the do-what-i-need-too-to-get-outta-here type. i'm sure i was the only one! one more positive? my cycle a philosophy class is over and done with on october 27th. (cycle is a regular class taught at a faster speed and over in half a semester.) - i have to admit though, i dont understand why ANYONE would ever want to major in something as tediously boring as philosophy - but to each his own.

this about it for now - i think.

much love.

awesome song.

this is john heusser. he is just breaking into the industry, and, judging from this song, he's going to do amazingly well.

good luck john!

ahh the fashion shows...

so i've had quite an interesting weekend; starting on friday, when i had the show for James Yoest, which then led to an evening out with some new found friends, losing my phone and my $250.- leather jacket, which is irreplaceable because i got it in switzerland.

here are some pictures from the James Yoest show and the one on Friday, Sept. 11:

that's the make-up for the show at Velour Lounge (10th ave at W 27th st nyc)

that's all ... or at least most of us from the show at Velour Lounge

this is Brian Dowling's excuse for a lunch ... POPEYES!! oh man..

this is James Yoest - the coolest guy i've personally ever worked for. he was so much fun and definitely all a-flutter right before the show started .. and yes, flutter is definitely the right word!

that's it for now, i'm sure there is going to be more to come soon!!!

fashion week 2009

so, sadly, fashion week is almost over. it ends tomorrow with the tommy hilfiger show. this year i got the opportunity to actually attend one of the shows: Max Azria.! i absolutely loved the show (which showed me that i will officially never become a model of that caliber - i love food!), but it was awesome to see them strutting down the runway! it definitely pumped me up for my show this friday at the knitting factory this friday.

here are some of the shots from the show (not all of them are highest quality):

there's a video too, but that's not too great either. why not post that too?

[and for some reason it didn't download properly, gotta check out the problem!]

i had a great time, thanks to photographer Brian Dowling, who got me into the Azria show. :) (thanks again for everything, and your welcome for the popeyes. :) ) i tried to get into the Philip Lim show too, but they had a guest list and no one from press was allowed in (that would be ME! :( ),but i heard it was amazing.

well, that's it for now.
good night and good bye.
see you in the spring, fashion week!

much love.
caroline.

02 September 2009

fashion week's coming up!

fashion week! oh man, this is going to be awesome. and i may be in it ... well actually it's going to be brooklyn fashion festival at the new knitting factory that they're opening on september 8th, but still! it's going to be so much fun. it's going to be on september 18th-19th, maybe you should get tickets?

i just had my fitting last night for James Yoest, an up and coming designer. it went really well, and he was really great to work with. check out his collection. it's very avant-garde. i love it. he uses organic materials, which makes everything that much more appealing.

belmar for labor day weekend then off to school again come tuesday evening. :/ it's my last year, and i'm so ready to get out of there.

much love.
caroline.

25 August 2009

it's been a while..

i know it's been a while. been busy seeing people i haven't seen since high school and work. catching up is always fun, even if it's with people i never really, actually hung out with. which makes it all even more interesting, no?
i got a new job. well, i didn't actually apply for it, they just asked me to work there. hollister in the paramus mall. i never really wanted to work there, but since i just booked my flight for switzerland in december, i figured, why not? not only is the money coming in not a bad thing, but i can also apply to be a hollister/abercrombie model. and how awesome would it be if people went to shop there and saw my face on the bags/walls? awesome.

not too many adventures lately. except for the fact that my sister thinks i have swine flu. which is highly unlikely. like my friend chris said, im probably just overtired and just getting a bit sick (thanks for making me feel better). and now i have to head to the mall today in this condition. :\ bummer.

that's about it.
much love.
caroline.

(who wouldn't wanna go here in the winter?!)

maybe i'll add more later.

16 August 2009

and we're back.

i've finally arrived.
sadly.
i'm not THAT happy about it, i actually love it there.
oh well.
only 132 more days before i head back.
now i'm faced with financial aid issues at school.

i'll post more pictures when i upload them all.

much love.

09 August 2009

the car adventure.

so, Thunfest 2009. was an awesome time that i spent with people that i won't be seeing again until december and my sister, vanessa. (since HERE she's old enough to go out and what not.) at around 2:30 we were so down to head home. we didn't ACTUALLY have an extra key, but knew that my grandparents hid one somewhere in the garage.

so we get home around 3 in the morning, mind you we made a few pit stops along the way, alcohol runs through my system like WOAH! so i park the car in the garage, pretty much wanna fall alseep at the wheel because i'm so tired, but force myself out of the car to go looking for the key. we start digging around and lift every box and dig around in every little container to look for the key in the small, little glass jar.

by 3:30 we STILL hadn't found the key and became desperate enough to try every door and window of the house to see if anything was unlocked, but my grandparents are good at locking everything, and everyone, out. so obviously we didn't find a way in. we considered sleeping outside until lightning lit up the sky, so we quickly made our way back into the garage.

so, what were our options?
1. sleeping in the rain.
2. sleeping on the garage, in the rain.
3. sleeping in the car.

of course we choose option 3., but the car wasn't exactly an RV, and i'm not exactly the shortest person. so i squeezed myself into the back seat while vanessa took the front. i slept through until 7:30, but vanessa thought i was going to die half the time due to the heat and the smell of gas in the garage, so she was always up and about. opening windows, opening the garage door so fresh, rain filled air, could get in etc. needless to say, she didn't sleep too much that night.

so yeah, that was an adventure. i woke up cramped and cranky and ended up taking a 9:07 train to bern. where we walked around the city until around 13:00. not only that, but we were also invited at our uncles for dinner, where i almost fell asleep at the table until he brought out the wine.

drove home and still didn't fall asleep until 22:30.

it was an adventure. and i'm not sure i would want to repeat it. well maybe if we had a RV instead of a 1993 Volvo S40...

only 5 more days in switzerland. and then again in 140 days with linda and jay!!!

07 August 2009

some new faces here..

there have been some additions on the farm while i was here. today is my last day, and i've decided to share some of them..

16 of these guys..

and these two.

there's a calf too, but i never got a picture of her. ^

as my days on the farm draw to a close again, i'm trying to get some finishing details in my life in order, not only did i get an e-mail from school mentioning something about getting deregistered from my fall classes, but there are also other situations that are in desperate need of some kind of order. we'll see how it all plays out when i get back to the states.

much love.

04 August 2009

summer has returned to the hills.

ahh.. finally the sun has come back, at least for the time being. only 3 more days on the farm and then its back to lyss for a week. we're flying back on the 14th and really, truly, i kind of miss the bustling city streets.
"New York is a different country. Maybe it ought to have a separate government. Everybody thinks differently, acts differently --they just don't know what the hell the rest of the United States is." -Henry Ford (i agree.)

01 August 2009

three songs i've come to like..

  1. the gossip ft beth ditto - heavy cross
  2. shakira - she wolf
  3. nelly furtado's "manos al aire"

listen to them and let me know what you think!

something to think about..

somebody once said that "to accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe."

i believe there is truth in this, but when you make a plan, isn't there a possibility that it's going to change? and if it does change, did you believe in something that you didn't ever really plan to achieve?

that's just something to think about - i've been so busy with all this farm work that today, switzerland's independence day, is one of the first times that i could actually just sit down and ponder. well, it's off to the barn.
